Baby Nursery's have to be one of the funnest rooms to decorate. I'm a huge DIY'er so I absolutely love creating soft colored decor for nurseries. Most of my friends are not the type to create their own items, they feel it's much easier to purchase from big box stores so I usually create personalized items for them.
I believe every nursery should have a large letter of the baby's first name on display over the crib. This is pretty common in nurseries, it's kind of "trendy" right now. I mentioned it in a previous post but I created a large "J" for my friend who is due any day now. Her nursery theme is owls, along with rustic nature, so I incorporated into that theme by wrapping the J in twine like rope. I added a few buttons and this is how it turned out, pretty cute isn't it?

Handmade Burp Clothes With FREE Pattern
I'm really in the DIY/handmade mood lately. I feel the quality of items in stores has completely decreased and I'm able to easily make similar items that are better quality, cheaper and exactly what I want. If you are leery about making your own items, don't be. It's much easier than you think and once you get going it's no longer intimidating. Try these easy handmade burp clothes. Follow this link for the free pattern.
10 burp clothes can be made for $6.00
What you need:
Fabric of your choice
Handtowels of your choice
You will be attaching the fabric to the side of the hand towel. I bought my hand towels from the clearance section at Target. Nothing too fancy just simple colors. They work great and are much thicker than other burp rags. These actually pick everything up and don't leave a mess behind. They wash up nice. I choose a softer fabric for the side of the hand towel so the towel part isn't so abrasive. Try it out!

DIY Gauzy Swaddle Blankets

With the hot Summer months upon us, using a gauzy swaddle blanket is lightweight and helps baby stay cool. Of course these are available in big stores such as Target or Walmart, but they are usually filled with obnoxious prints. I love simple baby items with simple colors. Since I didn't see any of my liking I found this fabulous tutorial and followed it exactly. I'm super happy with the results and found the directions to be really simple. I love the colors she choose. I'm not in the LA area to purchase at the store suggested, so I went to Michaels and Hancock Fabrics and found some gauzy material. These swaddles make perfect gifts or are great to use for your own baby. There is a lot more creativity and customization when you create your own. Babies love this material and so do I. Really easy to clean, super lightweight and easy to wrap around baby. Check out the full tutorial here.
